Frequently asked questions

Is it safe?

We do our best to ensure the safety of our volunteers. Street Angels patrol in groups of at least three, always including at least one man and one woman. Each patrol is in contact with the CCTV and police.
We have had very few incidents in which Street Angels have felt threatened. Usually we are in far more ‘danger’ of being hugged than attacked!

What qualities do I need?

Bradford Street Angels have a desire to serve and care for the people of Bradford. The key qualities needed are: to be able to work as a team, respect the authority of the Duty Manager or Patrol leader, to be non-judgmental and to believe that every person in need deserves our help and support. Street Angels need to be reasonably fit as we walk between 5 and 7 miles on a patrol.

How old must I be to volunteer?

We welcome volunteers of all ages, from 18 years upwards, with no maximum age.

Is there any training?

Training is undertaken on the job by an experienced Duty Manager or patrol leader. You will be in a team and will never be left on your own with a member of the public.

What’s the commitment?

We ask Angels to commit to at least one patrol a month.
